What the diffence between a normal mobile phone and a unlocked one?
Question by CFBJMH: What the diffence between a normal mobile phone and a unlocked one?
Why do you unlock your mobile phone?
Is there any risks in doing so?
How can I unlock my Nokia 6234?

Answer by joe.attaboy
Locking a phone means configuring the device so it can only be used with a certain carrier. Basically, the circuitry that reads the SIM is “locked” to only read those SIM cards. Unlocking requires getting an unlock code for the device, inserting a foreign SIM card (from another network), and entering the code to unlock the phone to use the SIM.
There is usually no risk, although some people have bricked phones due to carelessness. You have to be a real idiot to do that, however.
If you’re not changing carriers, or traveling out of your country, there’s no need to unlock most phones. There might be some incentive if one carrier offers a better deal than another.
How to unlock that model varies. Do a Google search on it (you have to pay a fee to many of the sites that advertise unlocking services) or contact your carrier, if they sold you the phone. They might provide you with the key.
